William Michael Briggs

 

William Michael "Mike" Briggs beloved husband, father, and papa died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Round Rock, Texas.


Mike was born September 2, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Willie Theodore Briggs and Mildred Lee Riley Briggs. He was a lifelong resident of the Port Arthur area. He obtained his degree in Pharmacy at UT and had retired from Eckerd Pharmacy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors.


Surviving relatives include his wife, Connie Briggs; daughter, Michaelanne Briggs and husband Grant Nakashima all of Georgetown, Texas; son, Byron Briggs and wife Lyndi of Athens, Texas; sister, Sharrone Sprague; brother, Ted Briggs and wife Liz all of Missouri City, Texas; grandchildren, Sydney, Dylan, Seth, Sam, Sophie and Sadie.


He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Briggs.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at the funeral home.

Dolores Shavers Moran, 68, a lifelong resident of Pass Christian, passed away on December 20, 2011, at home in Pass Christian and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Dolores' main focus in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; with a heart of gold and a protective nature for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ceville and Sedonia Dubuisson; parents, Harold Shavers and Lula Scarborough; and two brothers, Chester Dubuisson and Hester Dubuisson.
She is survived by her husband, Rogers Moran; two children, James Moran and Charlene Holliman all of Pass Christian; three grandchildren, Sterling Holliman, Kayla Moran, and Daniel Holliman all of Pass Christian; two sisters, Charlotte Ransonette and Deborah Scarborough of Gulfport; and one brother, Julius Dubuisson of Long Beach; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 23, 2011, from 6pm-9pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian, with a Recitation of the Rosary to be held at 7:00pm. There will be an additional time of gathering on Saturday, December 24, 2011, from 9:00am until 9:50am in the funeral home chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pass Christian. Burial will follow at Rotten Bayou Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: James Moran, Sterling Holliman, Daniel Holliman, Scott Dubuisson, Jerry Dubuisson, Patrick Klis, and Brandon Taylor with Father David Hamm officiating.

Jayne Ruth Smith

PORT ARTHUR —    Jayne Ruth Smith, 79, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Christus St. Mary Hospital.

Jayne was born July 23, 1932, in Bristow, Oklahoma to Lloyd Lyle Smith and Beulah Powell Smith. She was a resident of Port Arthur for 54 years and retired in 1992 after 35 years of service as an English teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School. Jayne was very active in the community volunteering and serving in many organizations. She was a member of Friends of the Port Arthur Library Board, and Community Concert Board; President of the Texas Artists Museum for 2 terms totaling 5 years; served many years on Motiva Community Advisory Panel; founded and sponsored Ebbtide literary magazine and Ecology Club at Thomas Jefferson High School; and also taught line dancing classes.

She wrote 11 literary study guides and had several articles published in the English Journal. Jayne was an avid traveler, traveling to each state in the U.S.A. and over 30 countries worldwide.

Survivors include her brother, Lloyd Lyle Smith, Jr. and wife, Gerry of Tulsa, OK; niece, Sharon Myers and husband, Tom of Norman, OK; five grand-nephews, one grand-niece and one great-grand nephew.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas.

Mary Lynn Parson Showalter

August 26, 2011

GROVES —    Mary Lynn Showalter, 67, of Groves, Texas passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Promise Hospital in Nederland, Texas.

Mary Lynn was born July 3, 1944 in Beaumont, Texas to Raymond Parsons and Monezelle Botkin Parsons.  She was a lifelong area resident and retired from Groves Library as a librarian after 8 years of service. She was also a member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.

 Survivors include her partner Ronald Cricchio and family of Groves, TX; daughter, Laura Rach and husband, Steven of Port Arthur, TX; grandchild, Becklend Rach; brother, Richard Parsons of Denton, TX;  nieces, Cindy Erdman and husband, Steve and their daughter Haven, Terri Patton and husband, Rusty and their son, Casey Patton; nephews, Randy Hawkins, James Hawkins, Jr. and wife, Val and their daughters, Danielle and Jamie.

   A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Dr. Clay Faulk, pastor of Providence Church officiating.

Cherry Williamson Perley

Cherry J. Perley passed away August 12, 2011 at Providence after a short battle with cancer. Cherry was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 13, 1943. She attended Lamar University in Beaumont and graduated with a history degree. She spent most of her life in Texas and met and married her husband there. After settling in Nacogdoches, TX with her family, she worked as an accountant for John Cason, CPA. Her husband took a job and moved to Anchorage in 1987. Cherry and her daughter followed on March 18, 1988. Cherry immediately fell in love with the state and enjoyed many of the beautiful attractions Alaska has to offer. She loved traveling to Portage, Seward and Homer and enjoyed showing visitors all the tourist attractions.

After working as an accountant for Peat Maurwick, she worked for Kuskokwim Native Corporation where she had the opportunity to travel to a few villages around the state. One of those was Point Hope, Alaska. When Tikigaq Native Corporation of Point Hope, Alaska decided to hire an in-house accountant, she was offered the position and became the sole employee based out of Anchorage. She traveled to Point Hope many times over the years and fell in love with the people and the culture of the village. They offered her the opportunity to get to know a whole new culture and way of life and it was one that she cherished and loved sharing with others. She eventually became comptroller and later risk manager for Tikigaq Native Corporation before retiring in 2007. She left behind many friends when she retired. She spent the last years at home with her family playing games, reading, gardening, and playing computer games.

She leaves behind her husband, Tony Perley, her daughter, Stephanie Perley, and 3 cats. A funeral will be held Monday, August 22, 2011 at 4:00pm, with visitation at 3:00pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church on Huffman Road. No reception after.

Paulda Stokes Strimel


Paulda Stokes Strimel, born on June 1, 1944, in Port Arthur, TX, the second child of Gladys & David Stokes passed away February 15, 2011, at 12:02 AM due to heart failure. She was a devoted teacher in Louisiana and Texas having taught at Leesville HS, RG Cole Jr/Sr high & Southside HS. She is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren & 1 great grandchild.

 

 

Lucille just got this information in December from a relative, apparently getting her reunion card. Here is all I could find going back.  Apparently no picture published.  I did not know her and cannot comment about her.

George Oliver Talbert

George Oliver Talbert went home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2011. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, February 18, 2011 at Claybar Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Funeral services will be held at Westgate Memorial Baptist Church, 6220 Westgate Drive, Beaumont at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 19, 2011 with Rev. Raymond McHenry officiating. Graveside services will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek, Louisiana, with Rev. Henry Hebert officiating. Pallbearers serving will be Gordon Hart, Ed Vogel, William Cable, Alvin Newton, Jim Thomas, and Kevin Carl. 

George was born November 26, 1943, in Port Arthur, to George Truett Talbert and Margaret Eugenia Oliver Talbert. He was influenced by his father to be an outdoorsman, and his mother taught him to love the Lord. George gave his life to God as a young boy. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he entered Lamar University and completed his studies with a Masters Degree in Engineering. While attending Lamar, George met Sandra Green at the Baptist Student Union. They were married on December 18, 1965. They had two children, George Clinton and Andrea Kathryn. 

George was a wonderful person, husband, father, friend, and outdoorsman. He always talked about his family and how proud he was of them. George enjoyed taking his family on vacations, even later taking his grandchildren. He also spent his time hunting with his son and grandson. George excelled at shooting sporting clays and enjoyed attending and sponsoring shoots across the nation. He became licensed as an instructor and even taught his grandchildren how to shoot. George achieved the rank of Master Shooter. 

George and Sandy were members of Westgate Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed being part of the Sojourners class. George went to work for Mobil in 1966. He had a very successful career with Mobil moving his family to work in New York City and Washington DC. He held various engineering and supervisory positions with Mobil. George was promoted to Manager of Environmental, Health, Safety and Training and then Manager of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for Texas. Although he retired from Mobil in 1996, he decided to continue working and went to work for Lamar University. George became Director of the Texas Air Research Center in 2002. He has worked with industry, state, and federal agencies from across the US obtaining millions of research dollars for Lamar and other state universities. 

During his career, he was a member of many professional and civic committees and receiving several awards for his diligent work on environmental service. George is survived by his wife, Sandra, son, George Clinton, and daughter, Andrea Kathryn Dilts and her husband, Charles Dilts. He has three grandchildren, Chamis, Teagan, and Cate Dilts. George is also survived by his two brothers, Thomas Talbert and his wife Annette, and Dr. Ronald E. Talbert and his wife Raenella and his two children. He is also survived by his step-mother Willa Mae Talbert and his aunt Mary Sue Gorin and many nieces and nephews. Teddy Johnson
March 31, 1944 - February 12, 2011


Teddy Nolan Johnson, 66, of Port Neches died February 12, 2011 at Renaissance Hospital in Groves .  

Born March 31, 1944 in Port Arthur and lifetime resident of the area, Teddy was the daughter of Mildred and Kenneth Nolan.  She was a 1962 graduate of T. J. High School and went on to Lamar Port Arthur College to earn an Associate’s degree.  Teddy retired after thirty-five years of service from Texaco.  She enjoyed shopping, playing cards at the Eagles, going to the movies and traveling with her daughter.  She is described as dignified, smart, classy, witty, and giving.  She was an amazing mother and loyal friend.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Elizabeth Johnson; lifelong friends, JoAnn Falgout and Kecia Huff Gillum, and Roberto Sgueglia. 
 
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street , Nederland .
