Larry James Branham

January 28, 2022

(At this time we can't find an Obituary.  All we have is this facebook posting by his sister. )

“I don't really feel like I have the right words for this post. Nothing I've come up with in my head seems good enough. Saturday was the first day I was in this world without my brother. Larry died Friday night - on our dad's birthday - in Austin. I couldn't be with him physically, but I spent as much time as I could on FaceTime and talked to him until I had a sore throat as he made his transition.

He was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia a few years ago at the young age of 75. We were very close my entire life. I loved him and I trusted that he loved me too. He was a gentle soul with a creative and compassionate spirt. His life was spent in service of others especially those less fortunate than himself.

The grief for me is heavy at this time and I feel like I'm moving around in a fog. My heart aches from missing him. For him, he's finally free of his broken mind and painful body.”

Abram Ogea, Jr.

May 17, 1944 - January 27, 2022

Abram Ogea, Jr. was born on May 17, 1944, in St. Landry’s Parish, Eunice, Louisiana, to Abram Ogea, Sr. and Pearl (Smith) Ogea, where he grew up with three sisters. The family later moved to Port Arthur, Texas where he and his siblings attended school.

Abe graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962 where he met Karen Jean Sanders. They were married in 1962 then were blessed by the birth of their first son, Eric Tyrone Ogea in 1963. Abe was converted to Jesus Christ at North End Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas under the pastorate of Bro. Jimmy Brossette in 1969. Abe and Karen soon welcomed their second son, Jeffery Shane Ogea, in 1970. When Jeffery fell deathly ill as a toddler, the Lord used this as His catalyst to call Abe into the ministry of the preaching of His Gospel, where he steadfastly remained for the rest of his life.

His first pastorate in 1975 was Ridgewood Baptist Church in Port Neches, Texas. For over 45 years, Abe ministered in various capacities as a pastor, guest preacher, missionary, and seminary graduate in various church communities in Wyoming, Louisiana, and primarily Texas. In 2013 Abe and Karen moved to Whitewright, Texas where he became pastor at Duplex Baptist Church in Ivanhoe, and First Baptist Church Dodd City. He then pastored Gathering Time Ministries in Telephone, Texas, and joined the ministry of Bethel Baptist Church in Whitewright.

Abe always enjoyed restoring antique cars, woodworking and carpentry, playing musical instruments, and joining in group jamboree sessions. He enjoyed Bluegrass music, the dulcimer, the mandolin, the acoustical guitar, and creating various heirlooms for his family. He deeply desired time with his sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family.

Through his many years in service to Christ, the Lord blessed him greatly with brothers and sisters in ministry, many of whom are present today. He preached his last sermon on Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Abe entered the presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ, peacefully and gently on Thursday, January 27, 2022, with his two sons Eric and Jeff, and his grandson, Jeremy Ogea by his side.

Abe was preceded in death by his parents, Abram Sr. and Pearl Ogea. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen (Sanders) Ogea; his son Eric Ogea and wife Karen of Azle, Texas; son Jeffery Ogea and wife Jamie of Leonard, Texas. Grandchildren: Jeremy Ogea and wife Mercy of Azle, Texas; Daniel Ogea and wife Destinee of North Port, Florida; Hannah Ogea of Arlington, Texas; Savannah Ogea of Leonard, Texas; Joshua Ogea and wife Jonah of Van Alstyne, Texas; and Mackenzie Ogea of Leonard, Texas. Great-grandchildren: Jackson Ogea, Anne Ogea, Ezra Ogea, Avonlea Ogea, Eve Ogea, Easton, Sutton and Waylon Ogea, and Pax Ogea. Siblings: Shirley (Ogea) Kay of Orange, Texas; Carol (Ogea) Ford of Beaumont, Texas; and Diane (Ogea) Kimball of Port Arthur, Texas. Additional family members include nephews, nieces, an aunt, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Brother Gary Maroney and Brother Eric Ogea will officiate. Pallbearers will be Eric Ogea, Jeff Ogea, Jeremy Ogea, Daniel Ogea, Joshua Ogea and Jackson Ogea. Abram Ogea, Jr. will be laid to rest in the Bethel Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas, followed by a gathering of family and friends at Bethel Baptist Church Whitewright, Texas.

Comments:  Abram attended most of our Reunions and was real proud of being a Class 62 graduate.  At our 55th he took a photo with GW and he was beaming from ear to ear.  That photo is on the website.
