***** HURRICANE IKE ***** It's been quite a ride and the entire region has taken a big hit. We hope to be able to communicate with classmates soon. Just a short update of what we know at this time. I know we have classmates in Bridge City and there it was necessary to rescue people off of rooftops. If you recall downtown main street there, it was under water several feet. Parts of Orange even worse. Our classmates living at the Beach, we have heard from our friends there and they are ok. But yet to know the full story of their homes. Most of you know about Galveston and Houston as many classmates are living there. The aftermath of this event will be felt for a long time. |

| A Mini Reunion was held on November 8, 2008 when James Lewis came back to town to visit Wayne Taylor. They rode over to classmate Gerald Thibodeaux's home in Bridge City and looked at his devastation up close. Pictures were taken in front of his FEMA "Deer Camp" trailer. (home pictures below) |

| Linda Tatum Briggs had much damage but it was mostly to the bottom floor of her home. These pictures show some of her damage and also some of the other devastation on Pleasure Island. |

| Well, Chas & I made it thru this horrible widespread hurricane but did not stay home. We went to some friends home of Chas' who were out of town and graciously let us stay there off Beltway 8 & the Sabo Exit. Not a lot of trees near their house, which is one of the reasons I did not want to ride it out at home due to numerous trees--not to mention the surge of Dickinson Bayou. Ike took their fence down in the nite. Lots of shingles down on some of the houses, but not theirs. Chas slept through the whole thing--I was terrified. Sounded like more than one 747 landing on the same runway back-to-back. We made our way back to Dickinson the next morn (Sat) after Ike roared through--saw transformers, trees, power lines, all down, streets flooded; I kept praying we could get home, we had to creep along. We finally made it to 45 South, and Dixie Farm Rd. I wanted to take Hiway 3, but Chas said 45 south would be better--no power lines. We exited at 646--lots of streets in Bay Colony flooded--TRIPLE: THOUGHT OF YOU. Send report. We made it to 517 thru town, then hiway 3 to Oleander Dr--ooops, bayou over road, couldn't get thru. We turned around & went different way to Hughes Rd to Palm Dr which runs into Oleander. Trees down, lots of debris on Palm Dr, didn't look like we could get thru them so we went one street over. That street was clear but it deadended into Oleander and we were stonewalled with a forest of downed trees. We had to go right, but the road was impassable, couldn't go left either. I saw some headlites thru downed trees, and mentioned to chas let's wait and see if he makes it thru. We didn't see his lights again so we knew he made it. We doubled back to Palm Dr and inched our way down the street & around debris, driving on peoples yards when we had to. Hard curve to right, then we saw my house still there. Explanation of photos follows: IkeSzHouse photo above is a neighbor's house with tree uprooted on her roof. Pretty huge tree. Ike1 photo is my back yard with that tree between my house and my next door neighbor, it fell on his fence. Ike4 is maple tree on left side of my house with a couple of branches down. The pine tree on the right next to my house had one branch severed & hanging beside it instead of on my house. Ike3 shows a small maple tree which was uprooted by Ike in the front of my house--it fell and rested on 2 huge shrubs and missed my house. I almost had those shrubs cut down. We had water, but no power. I bought a small generator the Mon after the storm which helped us run fans and a small lite, and the computer. TODAY THE POWER WENT ON--however, I do think in a former life I was a pioneer woman with my love for camping out and riding horses. But I did miss my ac. DAYNA STEELE: thanx for your e-mail showing photos of Camp Justiz--Wow! But you guys were lucky and have a great attitude--we Texans can build it back better! I was fortunate also as Dickinson Bayou did flood the garages of the first row but didn't make it to me. Good luck on the cleanup. DAVID AND SUSAN MUMME: thanx for your update, glad you are ok. And that is it for now, we were lucky compared to others. I did register with FEMA online for reimbursement, if possible, for the generator and the gas to run it. Let me know how you all are, and please send this to whoever you want. I have not yet built back up my address book since I left my NASA home. God Bless, and miss you all so much. Luv, Charlie O. |

where there are hundreds of pictures, if you can stomach them
| These are unique, before and after pics of Crystal Beach (disregard arrows, not mine) | Daughter once owned a place just to the left of center, across from a new big cabin. Her old one is gone, the new one still there. Two grandsons were christened at that church, top center. |
